We are not affiliated, associated, or in any way officially connected with YNAB or any of its subsidiaries or affiliates. YNAB and You Need A Budget are registered trademarks of YNAB, named here only to say which service avenir-mcp works with. avenir-mcp uses YNAB’s public API with each user’s own access token.

What avenir-mcp is meant for

avenir-mcp is meant for personal use: one person runs it on their own machine, with their own YNAB token, for their own budgets.

Not supported: a public or shared server

Running avenir-mcp as a public or shared MCP server — hosting it for other people, putting its HTTP transport on the internet, or collecting other people’s YNAB tokens — is not an intended use and is not supported:

• YNAB’s API terms reserve personal access tokens to their owner; an application used by others must use OAuth, with a published data policy. avenir-mcp has neither.
• avenir-mcp has no user accounts, no isolation between users, and its HTTP transport is built for this machine only.

Doing so would be at your own risk, and could breach YNAB’s terms.

No warranty, no financial advice

avenir-mcp is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, under the MIT licence. It is not financial advice: forecasts extend your recent past and can be wrong.

AI agents make mistakes. Every change avenir-mcp makes is previewed and waits for your confirmation: you remain responsible for the changes you confirm. Read each preview, and use undo when something went wrong.

The EU AI Act

avenir-mcp contains no AI model. Its suggestions count which categories a payee received before; its forecasts use medians and averages. It is a tool that an AI agent calls, not an AI system of its own. The AI system is your MCP client and its model, whose provider — Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or another — carries the obligations of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689. Using it for your own budget is a purely personal, non-professional use, and avenir-mcp is released under a free and open-source licence. It does not assess anyone’s creditworthiness, the credit use the regulation classes as high risk.

This is the publisher’s reading, not legal advice. A hosted, commercial version that embeds a model would call for a new assessment.

Where your data goes

• avenir-mcp sends your budget data only to YNAB, and to the model provider your MCP client uses (none, with a local model).
• The publisher of avenir-mcp receives nothing: no telemetry, no account, no server.
• This documentation site sets no cookies and runs no analytics; its fonts are served by the site itself.
